Friends of the Library Book Sale

The next Friends of the Library book sale is Saturday, December 6th, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm on the lawn. There will be lots of children's books for sale for 25 cents each! In the meantime, check out our selection of used books for sale in the new-book section of the library.

The shows are filled with wonderful marionettes that range in size from one foot to three feet tall! In addition to sophisticated trick marionette numbers, a performance may include singers, dancers, trained dogs, clowns, and a hula dancing grandma!"

Get the Little Green Bag!

The Literacy Program is selling recyclable book bags. They can be purchased for $5.00 at the Literacy Center, located at 417 N. Locust. The 12" x 16" x 5" bags are also great for groceries or goodies! (Click on the photo below to get a better view.)

No Book Sale This Month

Friends of the Library Book Sale will not be held this month due to the library's temporary closure. The next sale will be on November 1, 2008.

Mystery Readers' Book Discussion

The Friends of the Library and The California Center for the Book will be sponsoring the next four Mystery Readers’ book discussions at the Visalia library. The first meeting, on October 15, will include a screening of the film Mysterious California: Four Authors.

Meeting dates and books to be discussed are as follows:

October 15, 2008 - The Art of Detection by Laurie R. King
November 19, 2008 - Shell Games by Kirk Russell
December 17, 2008 - Sharpshooter by Nadia Gordon

Visalia Library Closure

The library will be closed from October 3rd to October 27th in order to move all the library materials back into the building. Bookmobile service will be located on Encina Street from October 4th to October 25th. (No computers will be available.)

Bookmobile hours will be:

Monday - Thursday : 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Friday - Closed
Saturday - 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Literacy Center's Casino Royale Night

Come join the fun at the Literacy Center's Casino Royale Night on September 27, 2008, from 6 to 9 PM in the Visalia library. There will be gambling with funny money, food, dancing, auctions and great prizes! Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door. All proceeds go to support the Read to Succeed Adult Literacy Program.

Mystery Readers' Book Group Meeting

The Mystery Readers' Book Group meets every third Wednesday of the month at Border's Book Store in Visalia. The next meeting is on August 20th at 7:00 pm. We will be discussing mysteries involving the medical field.

Friends' Book Sale on Saturday, June 7th

The Friends of the Library book sale is this Saturday, June 7th, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm, on the lawn. There will be lots of children's books for 25 cents each and many vintage Life Magazines for $3 each.

Preschool and Yoga Story Time will be taking a nap until November.

Due to construction and safety issues, both preschool story time and yoga story time will be taking a break until September. We will start back as soon as construction is over. We look forward to having story time in the new children's wing!

Visalia Library Closing Temporarily

News Release 4/4/08

The Visalia branch of the Tulare County Library will be closed due to construction during the entire month of May. During this time, some of the library’s resources will be available in the bookmobiles just outside the library on Encina Street. Bookdrops will be available near the bookmobile for returning books. In June, in addition to the bookmobiles, a limited collection of resources, reference services and computers will be available in the partially completed children’s wing.

There will be no story time for preschoolers in May at the Visalia branch. We are making arrangements to have Storytime at another location during the month of May. Contact the library or check this blog for further details. Storytime will start up again in June on Wednesdays at 10 A.M. in the partially completed children’s section.

During the summer, there will be a small area for study tables. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope that the new library unveiled after the construction will make this all worthwhile! If there are any questions, please contact Mike Drake or Michael Sawyer at 733-6954.

In & Out Hamburger's Children's Reading Program

Between March 8th- April 19th, children between the ages of 4-12 can receive a free hamburger, cheeseburger or grilled cheese* from In & Out Hamburgers for every five books that they read.
