New Roofs Coming in April For Two Branch Libraries

The Tipton and Alpaugh Branch Libraries will be closed on the following days while new roofs are installed:

Tipton: March 31st through April 13th

Alpaugh: April 5th through April 13th

Socrates Cafe, April 12

Every second Tuesday of every month, the Visalia library will be hosting a Socrates Cafe* at 6:30pm in the library's "blue" meeting room. This month we will be discussing Procrastination: Is it an inner subconscious fear to accomplish and be successful? Or is it just pure laziness? Please join us for this free and fun event! Meet Local Author, Ernest J. Finney, April 9th

Join us at the Visalia library on April 9th for an evening with award-winning local author, Ernest J. Finney. Finney's short fiction has received a number of awards, among them an O' Henry Award for "Peacocks." His two story-collections, Birds Landing and Flights in the Heavenlies, won California Book Awards. His newest book is Sequoia Gardens: California Stories.

This free event begins at 7:00 pm at the Tulare County Library, located at 200 W. Oak Ave., in Visalia.

Friends of the Library Literary Basket Drawing, April 9

The Friends’ Literary Baskets are back, and we have some fantastic choices for you this year. Tickets are just $1.00 each. To enter the drawing, simply fill out your tickets, be sure to mark which basket number you wish to win, and return the tickets with your check (made out to "Friends of the Library"), to the Visalia Library by April 1st.

The drawing will be held Saturday evening, April 9th, at a free Friends of the Library event. You do not have to be present to win.

Mystery Readers' Meeting, March 16

The next Mystery Readers' meeting will be held on March 16 at 6:30pm at the Visalia Library (upstairs, in the "blue" meeting room). Independent Film Night, March 17

The library will host a free showing of the independent film, 1981, on March 17th at 6:30pm in the upstairs "blue" room.

Synopsis
This cheeky, coming-of-age comedy tells the story of 11-year-old Ricardo, who in 1981, struggles to fit in at his new school. With a flare for inventiveness and a desperate desire to impress his classmates, Ricardo weaves a web of untruths, which he must carefully maintain to keep up appearances for his new friends. But when reality finally catches up with him, Ricardo is forced to come to terms with his true self.
