Ivanhoe Teen Club Providing Gift Bags to Local Children

Ivanhoe Teen Club is decorating 100 gift bags to hand out to local kids on the afternoon of December 20th. The bags will be filled with donations from local packing houses and grocery stores.

First Tuesday Book Club Meeting, December 4

The next First-Tuesday Book Club will meet on December 4 at 6:30 pm in the blue meeting room at the Visalia Library. This month we are reading Dreams of Joy: A Novel by Lisa See.

Book Summary: A continuation of "Shanghai Girls" finds a devastated Joy fleeing to China to search for her real father while her mother, Pearl, desperately pursues her, a dual quest marked by their encounters with the nation's intolerant Communist culture.

Learn How to Download eBooks, November 8

Join us on November 8  for a class on how to download the library's selection of eBooks and audiobooks. Instruction will be given on how to download these materials for each available format. The class is held from 6:30 to 7:30 in the computer lab at the Visalia Library.

Guest Speaker Dr. David Cislowski, October 27

Guest Speaker, Dr. David Cislowski, will be at the Visalia Library on October 27 at 7 PM to discuss his parents' experience as Holocaust survivors.

David Cislowski is a cardiologist.  He is a Sabra (a native born Isreali) and the son of Holocaust survivors.  Both of his parents survived WWII and the Auschwitz Concentration Camp.  Dr. Cislowski grew up in California with other survivors of the Holocaust.

Holocaust Exhibit, October 23 - November 2

"Courage to Remember," a traveling Holocaust exhibit from the Simon Wiesenthal Center's Museum of Tolerance, will be on display at the Visalia Library from October 23 through November 2.  This free exhibit features more than 200 exclusive photographs that cannot be seen anywhere in the world, offering amazing insight into the Holocaust.

Presented by the Foundation for California and made possible by a grant from Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Français (SNCF), the French National Railway.

This week's Family Fun Friday at the Visalia Branch is going to be a little different...
This week we will be showing two different films in the Children's Wing @4pm only. In the open area, we will be showing "Spooky Buddies" and inside the...
Homework Room we will be showing Academy Award Nominee, "A Cat in Paris" (recommended for older children due to some violence in the film). We will not be offering Kinect this week, but board games will still be available.

First-Tuesday Book Club, November 6

Summary:

Mystery Readers' Book Group Meeting, October 17


The next Mystery Readers' Book Group will meet on October 17 at 6:30pm at the Visalia Library (upstairs, in the "blue" meeting room).


For October we will all read a mystery by Deborah Crombie, twice winner of the McCavity Award.  She grew up in Texas, her first husband was British and she spends some time in England each year.  She writes British procedurals.  You may read any of her books and we will compare notes October 17th.
