TULARE COUNTY LIBRARY RECEIVES STATEWIDE AWARDS AT BOARD OF SUPERVISORS' MEETING

The Tulare County Library was recognized at the Board of Supervisors meeting yesterday for the two statewide awards it received from the California State Association of Counties.

“CSAC is validating something that we already knew here in Tulare County: our Library is doing a great job in finding innovative ways to promote their programs and keep the community engaged,” said Pete Vander Poel, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors. “We are extremely honored to receive these accolades and are proud of the Library staff.”

The programs being honored were the Teen Digital Lab and the Your Library in More Places.  The Teen Digital Lab received the Challenge Award,  and the Your Library in More Places received the Merit Award.  The awards were presented by CSAC representative David Liebler.

According to Jeff Scott, County Librarian, "These awards demonstrate that the library is on the cutting edge in finding new ways to reach every citizen in Tulare County.  Whether they are teens, residents of rural communities or other special groups, we look for programs and events that will interest and inspire them.”

The Teen Digital Lab provides teens access to computers, equipment and software they may not have at home that allows them to express themselves. Whether they have an interest in making movies, writing a novel or screen play, taking pictures or drawing and painting, teens are provided the tools to help.  It was designed and implemented by Librarian Faythe Arredondo.

The Your Library in More Places program is an innovative outreach effort that places book machines in rural, unincorporated communities in the county.  To date four boxes for patron access have been placed and another will be installed in the near future.  The program is supervised by Library Services Specialist Judi Hill.
