Lindsay Library Hosts Senegalese Author

The Lindsay Library presents an evening with author Fode Doumbia and his book Grandpa: Conversation with Myself on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. There will be refreshments, a book signing at the end of the evening, and an opportunity to meet the author and hear about his life..

Grandpa: A Conversation with Myself tells of a time Doumbia’s grandfather visited him in Lindsay. Doumbia took the opportunity to resolve a long-standing family problem, and his attempt is rewarded with an unexpected treasure: Grandpa's life story. Just like a West African griot, Grandpa tells his tale. Filled with uninterrupted candor, Grandpa also asks for his grandson's story, which is a continuation of his own. Cultures sometimes clash yet still come together as the two have conversations spiced with Senegalese and American flavors on subjects such as politics, education, racism, homosexuality, arranged marriage and even sports. Modern and traditional roles are juxtaposed as the story unfolds.

The Lindsay Branch Library is located at 157 N. Mirage Street, Lindsay, CA. For further information about this author event, call (559) 562-3021. The Tulare County Library serves all the citizens of Tulare County with locations in sixteen communities, four book machines, and online at www.tularecountylibrary.org. Book Club 2/7 - A Man Called Ove

“This charming debut novel by Backman should find a ready audience with English-language readers… hysterically funny… wry descriptions, excellent pacing… In the contest of Most Winning Combination, it would be hard to beat grumpy Ove and his hidden, generous heart.” -Kirkus Reviews
“A funny crowd-pleaser that serves up laughs to accompany a thoughtful reflection on loss and love… The author writes with winning charm.” -Publishers Weekly, starred review
