LITERACY SUPERHEROES HONORED BY THOSE THEY SERVED

At the Tulare County Library Literacy Center, it’s usually the adult learners who are the center of attention. Not this time.

Today the spotlight was on those people the adult learners chose as their ‘Literacy Superheroes.’ Some were tutors, some family members and some were friends. What they all had in common was the support for and belief in those enrolled in the Read to Succeed Literacy program.

The Literacy Superheroes were recognized at a luncheon on the lawn of the Literacy Center on Saturday, June 5. The honorees were: Victoria Alvarado, Shelley Branco, Max Hickey, Patricia Jackert, Jan Johnson, Dona Meinhardt and Dave Miner.

In making the awards, Deputy County Librarian Jeff Scott said, “Daily I admire each of our volunteer heroes for their achievements in helping make a difference in someone’s life by giving of themselves and their wisdom…. We thank you for your continuing support.” Literacy Center Director Patricia Habeck presented proclamations to each Literacy Hero and thanked them for their unwavering dedication.

The Read to Succeed program is open to any Tulare County adult who needs literacy services. For further information, call 713-2745.
