Tulare County Library "Food For Fines" Event Another Success

The semi-annual "Food for Fines" program sponsored by the Tulare County Library raised 3,661 pounds of food items to benefit county residents in need. The food was donated to Foodlink for distribution throughout the county.

During the month long event, anyone who brought in non-perishable food items to any branch of the Tulare County Library had their fines reduced or eliminated. The library forgave $4642.22 in fines for donors to the program, more than the amount forgiven in the first drive last November. In addition, many library patrons made food or cash donations without having fines on their library accounts.

Foodlink will use the items to restock the pantries of food banks throughout the county.  Items collected from the fifteen branches will be distributed in each branch's local community and surrounding areas.

"Food for Fines" is a team effort sponsored twice a year by the library and Foodlink. The next "Food for Fines" will be held in November.

Visalia Police Lieutenant to Speak at Tulare County Library

The Tulare County Library's "Getting to Know" series will present Lieutenant Steven Phillips of the Visalia Police Department on Thursday, May 22 at 6:30 pm at the Visalia Branch Library.  He will speak on the varied activities and programs of the city Police Department.

The "Getting to Know" programs sponsored by the Tulare County Library are designed to offer county residents an introduction to and information about people, issues, and organizations in the Central Valley. Programs are being held the fourth Thursday of the month at 6:30 pm at the Visalia Branch Library throughout the spring.

Lieutenant Phillips' presentation will be in the Blue Room of the Visalia Branch Library.

Crafty Corner, 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at the Visalia Library

Feeling crafty? If so, then come out to Crafty Corner at the Visalia Library tomorrow, Wednesday May 14th, at 10:30am! Prior experience is not required.

Bring your own project materials, Works In Progress (WIPs), or Unfinished Objects (UFOs), and meet others who are interested in fiber arts. You can also check out the array of online patterns available through the library. Instruction will alternate between crochet and knitting.

Crafty Corner is held in the Purple Room of the Visalia Library every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month beginning at 10:30am.

Owl Program at Three Rivers Branch, May 15

On May 15^th at 6:30 pm, Louise Culver of Critter Creek Rehabilitation will give a talk on owls, their feathers, and regurgitated pellets at our Three Rivers Branch.  She is bringing a live horned owl, barn owl, and screech owl.   

Tulare County Library Branches Offer May Children's Crafts

CHILDREN'S MAY CRAFTS AT TULARE COUNTY LIBRARY BRANCHES WILL MAKE AND HONOR MEMORIES

During the first week of May, children can make something for their mothers to cherish at the library branches craft programs.  In the last week, the children will make flags in honor of Memorial Day.  In addition to the two *holiday* crafts, the branches will offer spring items to make in the two mid May weeks.

 

The crafts for each week in May are:

May 6 through 10: Mother's Day Cards and Pins
May 13 through 17: Flower Pinwheels
May 20 through 24: Kites
May 27 through 31: Hanging flag in honor of Memorial Day

These crafts will be held at different times during each week at the Alpaugh, Dinuba, Earlimart, Exeter, Ivanhoe, Lindsay, Orosi, Pixley, Springville, Strathmore, Three Rivers, Tipton and Woodlake branch libraries.

"Getting to Know.." Series Presents COS President/Superintendent Stan Carrizosa, April 24
