April 2 is Adult Literacy Day in Tulare County

The Tulare County Board of Supervisors designated today as Adult Literacy Day at its weekly board meeting.

County Librarian Jeff Scott and Program Manager Sue Gillison came before the board and audience to outline the activities of the Literacy Center.   Ms. Gillison introduced to the Board Ray Lopez as an outstanding example of the accomplishments participants can achieve.  Mr. Lopez is working on his GED and has passed three of the five tests in three months.

Board Chairman Pete Vander Poel presented the proclamation, which noted that “one-on-one tutoring really does make a difference in the overall success of adults who are learning to read.”  It also stated that the “County of Tulare is pleased with the success of adult literacy programs within Tulare County and wishes to commend and publicly acknowledge the efforts of the program administrators, volunteer tutors and learners in their future endeavors.”
